Wakeboarder

It's fair to say I find a lot of inspiration from art photography of
the 20th century, especially 50's/60's/70's, and I think that influence
shows a little bit here.
I like photography with a classic modernist look and so I'm always looking
for chances to create something similar, a minimalistic image that makes
use of negative space to challenge the mind a little, whilst keeping
a retro feel. Hopefully, I've achieved that with this image in some
ways.
By composing so the ladder-like structure was isolated I felt it added
a slightly surreal feel. By filling the frame with water, there's no
way to gauge it's full expanse. Patience was needed waiting for the
wakeboarder to go exactly where I wanted to catch him - composition
was key! Thankfully, the moment happened and luckily the pose looked
cool :) I felt the bright sun created a hot California or Mediterranean
vibe. I think this will help the shot to 'age' well too.
On a technical point I used a polarising filter that I turned to increase
the contrast of the water and define the waves more. It's a useful filter
for anything to do with water (or glass and reflections in general).
Thanks for your interest.
If this image is the first of mine you have seen, or you are generally
new to my work, please know I'm always keen to make new contacts and
push my photography to wider horizons. If you like what you see, say
hello!
If you are able to help bring my photography to a larger audience, then
lets talk! I'd be glad to hear from you!
Finally, prints
of this image are available, starting at affordable prices to encourage
new collectors. Signed archival quality prints are strictly limited
in number. Your support is very much appreciated.
