JUNE 2020:
A
Brand New Day

Before getting into my thoughts behind today's photo I thought it might
be of interest to some if I said what inspired me to make it.
There's a photograph by René Burri of a person leading a horse
at San Cristobal stables in Mexico, 1976, that I've always liked...
it's a colour image, quite minimalist, like a painting, but it's the
composition and subject that particularly sparks my imagination.
It's one of those images that doesn't scream weird angles and in your
face dynamics... it quietly asks for attention, and with compositional
use of lines and space, it slowly imprints itself in the mind.
When this scene presented itself I knew I wanted to use a similar ideology
to capture it.
I loved the slatted light and the mood it creates. This is an image
which in some ways sums up a donkey's hard life... head down, plodding
off to face a new day without enthusiasm, a feeling most of us in life's
rat-race can relate to.
However, the cleanliness of the shed shows this donkey now has a wonderful
life as this is at the @donkeysanctuary
in Devon, a place that rescues donkeys and works towards a world where
donkeys live free from suffering.
I loved my visit there last year and hope to get back soon!
If this image is the first of mine you have seen, or you are generally
new to my work, please know I'm always keen to make new contacts and
push my photography to wider horizons. If you like what you see, say
hello!
If you are able to help bring my photography to a larger audience, then
lets talk! I'd be glad to hear from you!
Finally, prints
of this image are available, starting at affordable prices to encourage
new collectors. Signed archival quality prints are strictly limited
in number. Your support is very much appreciated.
