Hangouts by the Power Station

Until fairly recently my eyes were quite often closed to the opportunities
to make a shot like this. I see the power station regularly (it's local
to my home), I see people hanging out at their beach huts regularly
too (living near the sea as I do), but I had never thought to shoot
the two together... never seeing it as a subject that would make a beautiful
photo.
And maybe it isn't a beautiful photo (though I think it is), maybe it's
more of an "interesting" photo (if you consider the social
documentary aspect), or perhaps there's a "cool" factor to
the untypical juxtaposition. Until recent years I wasn't always properly
looking for "interesting" or "cool" but instead
for what I felt was typically "beautiful". I just didn't naturally
see the beauty within an industrial setting.
Joining my local Brighton
and Hove Camera Club last year opened my eyes even more to these
wider possibilities and a talk to the club by John
Bulmer was particularly inspirational. His gritty northern England
urban images now sit in the back of my mind as a constant reference
point, as beautiful as any image of tree-lined rolling hills, or sunsets
over sandy beaches.
If this image is the first of mine you have seen, or you are generally
new to my work, please know I'm always keen to make new contacts and
push my photography to wider horizons. If you like what you see, say
hello!
If you are able to help bring my photography to a larger audience, then
lets talk! I'd be glad to hear from you!
Finally, prints
of this image are available, starting at affordable prices to encourage
new collectors. Signed archival quality prints are strictly limited
in number. Your support is very much appreciated.
