It's all about the songs with The People The Poet.
Fans of Charlie Simpson's solo work should feel right at home with this
band. I've seen them play live twice now and these photos are from their
second time at Concorde 2 in Brighton. A good live band. There was a
Springsteen like quality to their music that I really liked, particularly
when the sound took on a more Americana feel. It also made me want to
dig out a couple of old Del Amitri records too for some reason (!).
The songs are written around stories collected from their fanbase, so
there's real lyrical meaning, and they are sung with a voice that could
one day be recognised as one of the greats.
Give the track Stabilisers
(I Will Be) a listen if the band are new to you. It sums up their
style well.
